Niamiah, We Are Proud of you!
Upon finishing up the St. Roch CDC summer internship, Niamiah enrolled in GED classes at Delgado Community College, picked up a part-time job as a custodian at Homer A. Plessy Community School, remained involved in the regular rhythms of St. Roch Community Churchand moved into the guys’ “Purple House” next to the church, joining the three other young men who are living in intentional Christian community and using their house as a base to walk alongside young men in our neighborhood. We are excited to continue to journey with him towards his goal of becoming a police officer one day soon.
52% Unemployed
Our efforts to join God in making all things new is not only based off or experiences and relationships but hard research. Check out this report from the Mayor’s office showing that 52% of African American males in New Orleans are unemployed. St. Roch CDC is at work reversing this trend.
