St. Roch CDC is looking for a summer intern to serve as a work crew boss for our volunteer mission teams. Each summer we host weekly mission teams who come to New Orleans to serve in a variety of areas such as construction, landscaping, child care, surveying and other service oriented activities.  We are looking for a servant hearted leader who is humble and teachable and is willing work hard and lead groups of volunteers.

Essential Job Functions:

You will be expected to

  • Coordinate all volunteer activities throughout the summer
  • Be present with teams throughout each day, greeting them, orienting them to the project at hand, going on supply runs and breaking down each day in preparation of the next day or week’s project.
  • Ensure needed supplies and tools are on site before volunteers arrive
  • Communicate with team leaders before and during their week of service
  • Coordinate with local ministry partners to accomplish projects and to provide meaningful service opportunities for teams.
  • Communicate regularly and proactively with Executive Director about project process, needed supplies and available service opportunities.
  • Provide list of activities, restaurants, etc. to volunteer teams to help them love the city.
  • Participate in Bible study/workshops with mission teams
  • Faithfully participate in the life and activities of St. Roch Community Church (www.strochcc.org)

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience with construction is helpful but not required
  • Leadership experience
  • Valid driver’s license

Physical Demands
For the most part the working hours will be 7:30 am to 5pm Monday though Friday and certain evening and weekend hours will be required from time to time. It’s hot in New Orleans in the summer and you will be working outside most of the time.  You will also be expected to be able drive a vehicle, lift heavy things and keep a winsome attitude.

• Well organized and able to organize others.
• Must be a good verbal communicator
• Must be able to work well with a visionary leader.
• Must be teachable
• Computer competencies including Microsoft Word and Excel, social media, e-mail and typing are helpful

Applicant must

  • be an active member, in good standing, with a Christian church.
  • be committed to the authority of the Scriptures and the central commitments of Christianity as expressed in the Lausanne Covenant (http://www.lausanne.org/en/documents/lausanne-covenant.html)
  • be passionate about seeing low-income people grow socially, economically, and spiritually

Compensation
We will provide an efficiency apartment at no cost for June and July 2014. You are responsible for your other expenses and are permitted to raise support not to exceed $2,500.
